U.S.A. - California
Andrea was first diagnosed with Leukemia in 1992, and being diagnosed very late, she had a long and difficult recovery. 6 years later, in 1999, Andrea, Anastasia and myself ran the 'Alaska Marathon' to raise money
for the
'The Leukemia Society of America' and put a closure to her treatment. That was the first marathon that any of us had run.
But in 2003, Andrea was diagnosed with Leukemia a second time and she had to begin the long, painful treatment again. Anastasia became her bone marrow donor for the second time, since they were a perfect match. After many more months in Hospital, the treatment went well and 2 years after being diagnosed
(and well on the road to recovery), Andrea signed up to walk the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon. Of course, we joined her, and we walked the marathon together.
